Quick Answer
Get a US number that works inside an app. The TripoSIM US Number gives you your own US number for $100 a year. You use it in the TripoSIM app in Pakistan over Wi-Fi or mobile data, with 300 minutes a month of calls to the US and Canada included, incoming calls, voicemail, and texts from US and Canadian senders. Your card may need international online payments switched on. WhatsApp and popular apps sent their verification codes to it in our tests (Oct 2026), though some banks may still refuse internet numbers. It can't send texts or call emergency numbers.
Pakistan has one of the biggest freelance communities in the world. Designers in Lahore, developers in Karachi and Islamabad, and virtual assistants in Faisalabad and Peshawar work for clients in the US every day. Many families also have relatives in New York, Houston or Chicago.
A US number helps in both cases. American clients see a familiar number and can call you like any local business. Family in the US can reach you without international rates. Here's how to get one from Pakistan, and what to know before you pay.
Why freelancers and families in Pakistan want a US number
- Clients trust a local number. A US number on your website, LinkedIn or proposal looks familiar to American buyers.
- More calls get answered. When you call a US client back from a US number, they are more likely to pick up.
- Family can call you easily. For them, it's a normal call within the US.
- Call the US and Canada. 300 minutes a month are included for calls to US and Canadian numbers.
Does internet calling work in Pakistan?
Yes, calling apps are widely used across Pakistan. The US number works over any internet connection, so it doesn't matter which Pakistani network you use. Two things to keep in mind:
- Mobile internet has sometimes been slowed or briefly cut in some areas. When that happens, calls in any app suffer. Home Wi-Fi is often a good backup, and the other way round.
- Call quality depends on your connection. For an important client call, use your strongest connection and headphones.
Please follow local rules on internet calling where you use the app.
Paying from Pakistan
The price is $100 a year, charged in US dollars by card. Many Pakistani debit cards have international online payments switched off by default. Turn them on in your bank's app or ask your bank. Some banks also add fees or taxes on payments in foreign currency, and some set limits, so check yours first. The plan is yearly only, with no monthly option. It renews each year unless you cancel the renewal.
Time zones: Pakistan and US clients
Pakistan is on UTC+5 and doesn't change its clocks:
| US city | Pakistan is ahead by (US summer) | Pakistan is ahead by (US winter) |
|---|---|---|
| New York | 9 hours | 10 hours |
| Chicago or Houston | 10 hours | 11 hours |
| Los Angeles | 12 hours | 13 hours |
A 9 a.m. call in New York is 6 p.m. in Karachi in summer and 7 p.m. in winter. Calls that come in at night go to voicemail, and the app shows a missed-call alert. Choose a voicemail greeting in one of 18 languages so callers know you'll call back.

Three lines on one phone
You don't need a second phone:
- Line 1: your Pakistani SIM, for WhatsApp, bank texts and local calls.
- Line 2: your internet: home Wi-Fi, mobile data, or any data eSIM or local SIM when you travel. A TripoSIM travel eSIM is one option abroad, never a must.
- Line 3: your TripoSIM US number, in the app.
The US number works with any SIM, any eSIM and any Wi-Fi.
On the road? Receive US calls with no roaming charges
Travelling for Umrah, visiting family in the Gulf, or working from another country? Incoming calls to your US number are included in your plan and arrive over Wi-Fi or mobile data, so receiving them adds no roaming charges (fair use up to 300 minutes a month, internet needed).
Honest limits
- No emergency calls. In Pakistan, dial 15 for police or 1122 for rescue services from a normal mobile line.
- Verification codes: banks vary. WhatsApp and popular apps such as Google, Apple ID, PayPal and Upwork sent their codes to our US numbers in our tests (Oct 2026). Some banks may still refuse internet numbers, so check with your bank. Read will a virtual US number work for verification codes?
- Don't use it to hide where you are. Freelance platforms check identity and location. Read US phone numbers for Upwork, Fiverr and freelance clients.
- US and Canada only. You can't call Pakistani numbers with it.
- Receive texts only. Sending is not included.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a US number in Pakistan without a US address?
Yes. You don't need to live in the US. The TripoSIM US Number is sold in any country except sanctioned ones.
Why did my card payment fail?
Most often, international online payments are off, or your bank has a limit. Turn them on in your bank's app, check the limit, or try another card.
Will it work on my mobile network?
Yes. It works over any internet connection, on any Pakistani network or Wi-Fi.
Can I put the number on my Fiverr or Upwork profile?
Check each platform's rules first. Many limit sharing contact details, especially before an order or contract starts. The number is great for calls with clients where the rules allow it.
Is 300 minutes a month enough for client calls?
For most freelancers, yes: that's ten 30-minute calls to the US or Canada each month, plus incoming calls. You can add 100 minutes for $5.
