How Do You Get a US Phone Number in the UAE? (Dubai & Abu Dhabi, 2026)

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are full of people with ties to the US: clients in New York, a brother in Texas, or a US company that keeps asking for "a US phone number". But the UAE is different from most countries when it comes to internet calling. This guide explains, honestly, what a US number in an app can and can't do in the UAE, so you can decide before you pay.

Can you use a US number in the UAE?

The UAE allows internet calling only through licensed apps. On local mobile networks and most Wi-Fi, voice and video calls in many apps, such as WhatsApp and FaceTime, are blocked, while messages still work. This can also affect calls in other apps, including the TripoSIM app.

Is it a good fit for you?

A good fit if you:

• Travel often and want US clients and family to reach you on your trips.
• Need a US number on forms, invoices or your website, and want texts and voicemail from US callers.

Choose something else if you:

• Need reliable, everyday calls from inside the UAE.
• Need a number mainly for bank codes. Some banks may refuse internet numbers.
• Need to send text messages. Sending is not included.

Paying from the UAE

You pay $100 once a year by debit or credit card. The price is in US dollars, and the dirham is pegged to the dollar, so the amount stays steady, though your bank may add a small foreign-currency fee. The plan is yearly only and renews each year unless you cancel the renewal.

Time zones: the UAE and the US

The UAE is on UTC+4 all year. The US moves its clocks in summer, so the gap changes:

A 9 a.m. call in New York is 5 p.m. in Dubai in summer and 6 p.m. in winter. Night-time callers reach your voicemail.

How to get your US number in the UAE

1. Install the TripoSIM app: on your iPhone or Android phone. Our app install guide shows how.
2. Pick your number: go to the US Number page and search by US state or area code. We hold your choice for 30 minutes while you pay.
3. Pay for the year: $100, paid upfront by card.
4. Open the Phone tab: sign in to the app with the same account.
5. Allow notifications and the microphone: without them your phone can't ring and people can't hear you.
6. Set up voicemail and test: choose your greeting, then ask someone in the US to call you and leave a message.

What you get for $100 a year

Each call is rounded up to the next full minute. Unanswered calls don't use your minutes.

Three lines on one phone

No second phone needed. Line 1 is your UAE SIM (du or e&). Line 2 is your data: your UAE line or Wi-Fi at home, and any data eSIM or local SIM on a trip (a TripoSIM travel eSIM is one option, never required). Line 3 is your TripoSIM US number in the app. It works over any internet connection, with no special phone or phone company.

When you travel: US calls without roaming charges

This is where a US number shines. Outside the UAE, incoming calls to your US number are included in your plan and arrive over Wi-Fi or mobile data, so you pay no roaming charges to receive them (fair use up to 300 minutes a month, and you need internet). The honest limits

• No 911 or emergency calls. In the UAE, call 999 for police or 998 for an ambulance from a normal mobile line.
• Verification codes: banks vary. WhatsApp and popular apps such as Google, Apple ID, PayPal and Upwork sent their codes to our US numbers in our tests (Oct 2026). Some banks may still refuse internet numbers, so check with your bank. Read will a virtual US number work for verification codes?

Is it legal to use a US virtual number in the UAE?

We can't give legal advice. The UAE limits internet calling to licensed apps, so check the current rules from the UAE's telecom regulator (TDRA) before you rely on app calls inside the country.

Will calls in the TripoSIM app work on du or e&?

They may not work on all UAE networks, and we can't promise they will. Texts and voicemail usually reach the app over data. Outside the UAE, calls usually work well on any good connection.

Can I use the US number for WhatsApp?

Yes. In our tests (Oct 2026), WhatsApp sent its verification code to the TripoSIM US Number, and so did popular apps like Telegram, Google and Apple ID. Remember that WhatsApp calls are restricted on UAE networks, while messages work. Some banks may still refuse internet numbers, so check with your bank.

Can I call UAE numbers from my US number?

No. Calls out go to US and Canadian numbers only.

Can I get a refund if calls don't work in the UAE?

Payments are non-refundable, so please read this guide before you buy. The exceptions: if we can't deliver your number within 72 hours of payment you get a full refund, plus any refund your local law requires.
