Emergency numbers
Tap a number to call it.
Before you go
- A Turkish SIM card in a foreign phone is blocked after 120 days unless the phone is registered. A travel eSIM uses roaming, so this rule does not affect it.
Mobile data in Turkey
- Fast 4G works in all cities, holiday towns and along the coast.
- Signal can be weak in remote mountain and rural areas.
- Your eSIM connects as roaming on local networks, so turn on Data Roaming for it when you land. There are no extra roaming charges.
Useful apps
- BiTaksi: book official yellow taxis in Istanbul and other big cities
- Uber: in Istanbul it books regular yellow taxis
- Google Maps: metro, tram, bus and ferry routes
- Google Translate: point your camera at Turkish signs and menus
Good to know
- In Istanbul, get an Istanbulkart card for the metro, trams, buses and ferries.
- Cards work in most shops, but carry some Turkish lira cash for small places and markets.
