"VoIP" calling (voice/video over the internet) is restricted or blocked on local networks in a handful of countries — most often in the Gulf, and via the national firewall in mainland China. Messaging and data almost always still work; it's the calling feature that's affected.

How to still call home when calls are blocked
1. Use a travel eSIM.
